Egg-tinted Heartache!

Oh, babies!  My heart is breaking!

Erin Nekervis continues to show me the photos she is producing for our new album, The Old Lady Died: A Disgraceful Affair.

We are thinking of an old timey look, and Foz and Erin checked out a couple of different looks for old timey photos.  You know, not all old timey photos look alike.  What they look like depends on the kind of technology that was used at the time.

Larry and Cait dream of a better world, with better whiskey!

Back in the days of wet-plate photography – like, around the Civil War – photographers printed your pic on a little playing card-sized thingy called a carte de visite.  They used albumen and some other stuff to make their paper light sensitive.  Albumen is eggs.  Therefore, the pics look kind of sepia toned and eggy (after a while).  Look at what Erin did to this wonderful photo of Larry and Cait Bowes.  It looks like an old parlour drama, and Larry looks like a total Gentleman Caller.

Foz and Kate kinda canoodling.
Later, in the 1930s photos looked different.  I don’t know why, because, even though I am an historian, I don’t give a rat’s ass about the 20th Century.  That’s not even history.  It’s yesterday’s news.  Still, look at the spooky 1930’s-looking pic of a rakish reeling Foz with a beautiful, but soon to be ruined, Kate Adams.

No, Kate!  Don’t kiss that drunkard!  You will be ruined!  You will never find a man to take care of you, and you will be reduced to making your own way in the world by writing and singing beautiful songs.

Poor girl!  Poor, poor, girl.

Come to Cole’s tonight and comfort poor Kate by buying her drinks during Cole’s Comedy Open Mic.  If Kate doesn’t make the scene, just buy Foz a few drinks to salve his ruined conscience and his pounding headache.

FtH plays at 8:45 or 9:00, and the comics go crazy after that.

Pictures of Dead Old Lady!

Kids,

The pictures you were asking about have started to some in.

Last week  Your Pals in FtH got together again with the mag photog Erin Nekervis to take publicity pics for the new album.  So far they are something great.  I am only going to show one here, because Erin is going to monkey with the other ones until they are just right.  Needless to say, we thank Erin again for her brilliance!

L-R = Foz, Kate Adams, Larry, Cait Bowes, Patrick!

Cool huh?

We also have a preliminary title for the album, which heretofore has simply been called Tennessee Williams’ Thing.  It could have stayed that way, but we decided to go ahead and give it a real name.

That name will probably be something like:

Foz the Hook
 and
The Kates
 and
Tennessee Williams
 Present:

The Old Lady Died:  A Disgraceful Affair.

That’s all for today because I want you to just stare at Erin’s awesome pic.

Come to Cole’s tonight to see FtH, along with all the comics.  We play at 8:45.  Be there on time to learn Your New Pickup Line.

RE:COM

UPDATE (January 19):  Check out the RE:COM Web Exclusive interview with Foz.  Also, there was a fine little set at Cole's last night as Larry Drennan looked at a set list of nine songs he didn't know ten minutes before the show, and then proceeded to nail them.  Way to go, Larry!

Dear Literati,

Olde Foz wishes to direct you to a fine contribution to the Humanities produced by some of the nation’s leading thinkers and opinion makers.  RE:COM Magazine is growing fast, and will soon surpass The New Yorker as the first resource for the Algonquin Round Table crowd.

Founded in 2010 or some other recent year by a funny lady who works very hard, RE:COM brings you the latest news about the comedy scene on America, or, if funny things ever occur there, the rest of the world.  In these pages you will read features and interviews on such great comics as Tim Minchin (who isn’t American but does play piano), Marc Maron (whose name precedes Tim Minchin at the RE:COM publicity page), and H. Jon Benjamin (who knows somebody who knows Foz).  I cannot emphasize too strongly that this is the most influential publication in the history of the Republic.

It’s good.  You should think of going and getting it here.

If you do, you will see a sweet photo and caption of Your Old Pal Foz, done by elite photographer Erin Nekervis.  The pic is from the now-famous “Green Wall” shoot taken in Chicago last October, when Foz was wearing a cowboy hat.

Thank you, Erin!  Also, thank you to the glamorous Kristy Rock, for including Foz the Hook in this fine publication!  Just look at that glam shot.  This lady doesn’t just belong to the round table, she gets to sit next to Dorothy.

If you want to learn what’s up in comedy, subscribe to RE:COM Magazine.  If you just want to see a dashing picture of Foz, also subscribe to RE:COM Magazine.  Also, follow this blog.

After that, I will see you tonight at Cole’s.  The show starts at 9:00 with an intimate set by Foz and Larry, and then continues with a wild list of SOPA compliant comics, led by Cameron Esposito and Adam Burke, at 9:30.

Foz will be wearing a red tie!

Foz Drinks Alone

Hello Babies.

As you know Your Pals Foz the Hook generally play all together at the same time.  We do this in order to maximize the sense that the product you are hearing is "music," and that it is played by a "band."  But, sometimes we want, or need to take a break from that.

For instance, there are days when all the boys cannot be there for a gig.  Perhaps someone moved to a different city, or someone else has to go to some kind of swanky dinner event for work.  You are probably thinking, "is it even possible for music to be played by just one person?"  The answer, in our case is yes.  Yes, music can be played solo by Olde Foz by accomplishing the tickling of ivories, while simultaneously howling into the microphone.  In fact, that is what is happening tonight at Coles'.

I can't promise a bunch of FtH songs.  Some of our songs are so good when played by the whole band that playing them alone would just seem sad and pathetic.

Sad and pathetic.

So join Olde Foz tonight at Coles' at 9:00, and I will sing you a batch of Sad'n'Blue songs that will make you laugh or not, until you are so drunk and depressed you will want to watch a whole evening of Chicago's most awesome comics just to lure your head back out of the oven.

Like I says, Olde Foz begins howling at the moon at 9:00, and Cameron Esposito and Adam Burke bring The List right into your thin thin bloodstream at 9:30.

Drink alone, if you must, but never drink by yourself.  That's what I always say sometimes.

(Another awesome photo from the "Green Wall" session by Erin Nekervis, October 15, 2011).

A Green Wall

It doesn't look green in this picture, but I promise you, the wall is green.

More to the point, the green wall was chosen by Erin Nekervis, the fantastically funny photog of Chicago's comedy scene, as the back drop for a new series of FtH publicity shots. Soon Patrick will meet will meet with Erin for another publicity session.

All I can say is Wow! So should you. You think this photo is great! You like how Foz is standing there with a Martini glass, and with a frightening ukulele on the ground a few feet away. You like how he is scratching his face pensively (I think I was actually taking my glasses off, but you can't see them). You like how Erin pasted F.O.Z. in huge letters to my lapel (no Photoshop here). Fer cryin' out loud - you love everything about this picture!

Well, don't blame me. Erin Nekervis did all the heavy lifting on this one.

Tomorrow night Foz will perform solo at Cole's, because we are a little short on sidemen. We will be back up to strength by next week though.

In the meantime, come back to FozBlog frequently to look at this swell picture of Foz. You have such a crush on that old chap.

More Pics - Maybe Recordings

Who knows, Kittens?

Last year the fabulous fave comic photog, Erin Nekervis took a bunch if fantastic photos of Your Pals that we have been able to use as publicity pics ever since. There wasn't a single bad shot among them, although there were a number of shots of three chaps looking like idiots. As I am sure you are assuming, the dashing trio pictured here were captured by Erin.

Pretty soon Erin will be joining us again to record the look of the act as we close out this lineup (see last post for details about Leon "Fishface" Strokes' departure for California). We look forward to working with Erin again, and we recommend her to anybody who needs terrific shots. As you have seen from our shots, Erin has a talent for really capturing everything that is just wrong about you. All of us need such a photographer in our lives.

We will also make some attempt to record another show before Leon takes off. Maybe shoot some video... Who knows?

Be at Cole's tonight at 9:00 to see FtH rock Cole's Comedy Open Mic. Cameron Esposito and Adam Burke begin burining through The List at 930. If you're a comic, sign up. If you aint, enjoy yourself.

Watch out for the Cross Post!

Listen Fozophiles, Your Old Buddy Foz is back from Kansas City, where he teamed up with his Old Chums in Bobby and the Chuxx for a weekend recording session. All went swimmingly, so I will simply let you read all about it over at ChuxxBlog.

In the meantime, here is a new sexy photo of your Huge Crush, Foz and his wingmen, Patrick and Leon from the never ending collection of awesome publicity pics by Erin Nekervis.

See you tomorrow night at Cole's, ladies.

A Lurid Disgrace!

Did you see how much Foz the Hook drank later tonight at Cole's? They were so wasted! Erin took this picture of them about ten hours from now. I think they closed the bar tomorrow morning.

Patrick was so drunk he is going to fall off his drum stool. Leon is going to forget how Cutie Pie! goes, and it only had like two notes.

Did you see Foz trying to flirt with Cameron? I seriously don't think he even knows. Not that his drunken slurring of minor Neruda poems would work on any woman. Ooooh - he memorized Poeme XX! Watch the ladies swoon. What a dork!

Shameful! Disgraceful!

If you want to see how Foz the Hook disgraced themselves tonight come to Cole's Comedy Open Mic at 8:00 or so. Sign up if you're a comic. FtH should began playing at 8:45 or 9:00 and host Cameron Esposito takes the stage at 9:15-9:30. Otherwise just toss back some $2 PBR's from Travis Bartender and knock yourself out. Don't try to buy the band drinks. They're cut-off.

There Will Be New Pics

Because they are here!

As you all know Foz the Hook's staff photog, Erin Nekervis, shot some sensational and scandalous pics of the band before the comedy open mic at Cole's a couple of weeks ago. I have seen them, and they are wonderful.

Thank you so much, Erin! I will post a few of them from time to time. I especially like this one, which shows my good side.

Ladies! If you want to see Foz's bad side come to Cole's tonight for the weekly comedy open mic. All of your favorite comics will be there. FtH open the show at 8:45 or 9:00, and CameronorAdam will tickle your hippocampus at 9:15 or 9:30. It doesn't really matter when it starts, because you will be there around 8:00 to buy the band drinks.

See you tonight!

Will There Be New Pics?

We hope so.

After a frank consultation with FozMom it has been determined that Your Old Buddy Foz has failed to provide sufficient numbers of pictures or grandchildren. I thought that you Ladies would always enjoy the attached "All Belgians are Equal" head shot, but now I understand the importance of frequent updates and babies.

With an eye to addressing one or both problems tonight the talented and highly recommended Erin Nekervis will join FtH at Cole's to take some new publicity photos, and perhaps snap a few live action scenes of the evening's scandalous activities. The whole act, Foz, Leon, and Patrick are depending on Erin to catch some swell images of Your Favorite Band, so that You Ladies can swoon over our dreaminess.

Then, after the swooning, FtH will light up Cole's so that there is plenty of heat for Cole's Weekly Comedy Open Mic. It's the best comedy mic in town, so don't miss it. We think that the magnificent Cameron Esposito is back in town to host. If not, Good Old Adam Burke will escort you through and evening of brain-shredding laughter. FtH plays at 9:00! The comics go at 9:30. You can start drinking whenever Cole says it's ok, and it's always ok.
